Unsigned UK country singer songwriter based in the South East of England.
Hard to be Humble (cover)
I am solo artist, resident on the South East coast of England, performing mainly Country & Western style music at small acoustic venues around England and the USA. I have written some of my own songs over the past couple of years but I mainly do covers of well-known songs from traditional country artists such as Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers. I am available for small clubs, pubs, etc., who have their own P.A. systems or where no P.A. is needed as I do not carry my own equipment.
Band/artist history
I started my "public" singing career in a pub in South London at the age of 17. At 19 I was a resident singer at the local folk club in my home town of Dover. I was also singing and playing Country at a local pub at weekends with a few friends. In the early '70s we formed a trio with me as lead singer and played around the pubs, clubs and hotels in the local area for a while and even got invited to the States but, as we all had jobs and families, that wasn't an option for us at the time and, after a few months, the group decided to split and I went back to playing Saturday nights in my local. It wasn't until after my wife died and I retired from my full-time job in teaching that I bought my first decent keyboard and started to broaden my repertoire and record my efforts. I was encouraged in this by my newly-found family in the USA and soon found myself doing regular trips Stateside and travelling all over the country with my guitar in the back of the car, doing impromptu shows wherever I could find an audience.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes - anywhere that I can find an appreciative audience! I did a show at the Virginian Hotel in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, and made a cowboy cry with my rendition of The Ballad of the Alamo. My all-time special moment has to be when I stood on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on my birthday and sang "Waiting for a Train"
Your musical influences
There are a huge number of artists who have influenced my style and whose songs I have covered over the years but the main influences would have to be the likes of Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodgers, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and other similar artists.
What equipment do you use?
Epiphone Mastebilt AJ500M acoustic guitar; Yamaha Tyros & Yamaha PSR-S710 keyboards.
