An extraordinary musical talent with a career spanning over two decades as an award winning producer, arranger, songwriter and musician. Angelo Ray is positioned to become one of the new millenniums leading R&B, hip-hop, and soul ‘hit makers’. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Angelo began playing the drums at the tender age of four. His passion for the drums highlighted his natural ability and focus. It was no surprise that the Cincinnati School of Creative and Performing Arts accepted Angelo at the age of twelve. By the time he graduated, Angelo had amassed a great deal of experience playing a wide range of music with local bands.
Angelo’s reputation as a ‘live showstopper’ opened the doors to many opportunities with top R&B groups of the 80’s and 90’s. He began touring as the drummer for After 7 as well as Bobby Brown and continued his career as the lead drummer for New Edition and Bell Biv Devoe. Angelo soon became one of the most sought after R&B drummers in the country, performing on Saturday Night Live as well as New York Undercover.
In 1991, Angelo decided to give up touring and begin his career as a writer and producer. Although Angelo’s roots are in R&B, Nile Rodgers, of Chic and Angelo co-wrote and produced that year a Billboard #1 rap single, “The House the Dog Built”, performed by Jibri (Ear Candy Records). This led Angelo to produce a number of songs for R&B trio Jade. Angelo’s contributions helped Jade’s second project, Mind, Body, and Soul, reach ‘Certified Gold’ status.
Angelo also has a passion for developing new talent. In 1999, he helped launch the career of Red Ant’s new artist Tammy Davis, by producing “ Why You Wanna Do Me Like This”, on the Love Stinks movie soundtrack. Angelo’s ability to create hits was proven again with Kevon Edmonds the brother of Kenneth ”Babyface” Edmonds in 2000. Kevon commissioned Angelo to write and produce a track for his debut solo album on RCA Records. The result became the albums title track, “24/7”, which after soon being released reached the #1 spot on charts with a ‘Certified Gold’ status, almost propelling Kevon’s record to platinum status.
In 2001, Angelo, was the co-executive producer for the Ram-Z album on TVT. Angelo was instrumental in all aspects of Ram-Z’s development, which included producing six tracks on their debut album. In 2003, he produced and released AMR’s debut project entitled “Lo Down” --- a compilation of the entire AMR Music Family which did exceptionally well overseas.
Angelo Ray has recently produced Adina Howard’s first single from her March 16 , 2004 release , “Nasty Grind”. Angelo produced the entire Big Jim’s album “Commitment Episode I ”, which is currently being shopped. He is presently working on the follow-up, “Lo-Down 2” due to be released Summer 2004.
Angelo is currently working with his son Angelo Ray Jr. on his debut Gospel Inspirational album entitled, “My Story”.
At present Angelo is CEO of his own company AMR Music. AMR Music is a Production and Recording company with a full staff of Producers, Writers, Engineers and several recording artists. Angelo is presently working in an alliance under the AMR umbrella with The Artist Factory founded by Hiriam Hicks. AMR Music has a fully equipped state of the art studio that is located in Atlanta, Georgia. Angelo’s ability to write, produce, arrange and elicit the best from an artist makes it very clear. Angelo is a ‘choice’ producer for years to come!!
