My name is Danny Bartley. I am a roots guitarist/singer/songwriter, based in Toronto, Canada. My main band is called The Royal Crowns. I also play in a surf instro band called The Vondells.
My main band The Royal Crowns are a rock'billy band. We have been together since 1989. As well as being one of Toronto's favourite headliners, we have opened up shows for Wanda Jackson, Dick Dale, Sleepy LaBeef, and Jerry Lee Lewis. We have backed up Robert Gordon on numerous occaisions in Canada and the U.S. Our current line up is myself on lead guitar/vocals, Scott Gibson on upright bass, Bob Taillefer on steel guitar and Teddy Fury on drums. My surf instro band The Vondells are a new development. I find writing instrumentals to be quite a natural process and have amassed over 25 originals the last year or so. I had to put a band together to keep the songs alive. The Vondells feature myself on guitar, my brother Neil on drums and Ken Badger on bass. We are now starting to play the Toronto club circuit.
You can catch me playing live in and around the Toronto clubs.
My guitar influences include: Charlie Christain, Cliff Gallup, Scotty Moore, Jimmy Bryant, The Ventures, Dick Dale, Chris Spedding.
My guitar is a 1959 Dual Annie Gretsch. My amps are a 1963 Fender Tremoluxe, 1964 Fender Deluxe and 1989 Fender Twin. I also use a reissue 1963 Fender Reverb tank.
As well as developing a reputation as one of Toronto's most exciting live guitarists, I have had original compositions used in several productions including The Disney Channel movie "Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire," "Blacktop" starring Meatloaf and most recently "The Evil Knevil Story" filmed in Toronto last summer. I have also had songs used in numerous television shows.
