i've played as a drummer and as a lead guitarist in a couple of bands when i was younger--most people aren't too serious about anything (especially the hard work and extreme dedication it takes to be a musician) back then. i love the stage but suffer a bit of social anxiety, so it takes me a bit of BOTTLE COURAGE to get up there. to practice, i sometimes hit local karaoke bars--good way to get drunk and make a fool of yourself, any time you want to.
much of my guitar and drum work is influenced by the norwegian black metal movement of the mid '90s (a few good bands like dimmu borgir persist to this day from back then). as for bass, i like a technical, ornamented style a la mudvayne or rush. vocals--layne staley of alice in chains, trent reznor of nine inch nails, and marilyn manson have been heavily influential. i also borrow from world/tribal music and european classical music to some extent.
