Solo project of Rudy Gonzalez, former frontman for On-Edge.
My name is Rudy Gonzalez. I was the frontman for a band called On-Edge for 6 years. I have been writing and recording my own music for about 12 years. I grew up in Washington state and was in several bands in my teens and early 20's. I joined my first major band, On-Edge, in 2006 and were mildly successful. We were signed to a record label, released a CD, and we played shows with artists such as Dope, Adema, and Soil across the country. After a long hiatus and stressful drama, I decided to leave On-Edge and focus on my own life and my own goals... A concept that I have wanted to happen for a long time.
Band/artist history
I started doing solo stuff back in 2000. It wasn't anything serious... Just something to kill time. I started to seriously work on my solo career back in 2004, after my band, Misanthropy, broke up and I moved to Oregon from Seattle. I recorded quite a few songs in the year I lived there. A lot of which I still have and am still planning on using in the future. In 2005, I moved back to Washington and continued my, currently unnamed, solo project. I gained the friendship of a couple of guys who wanted to help me with my recordings and they stuck around for about 6 months. After that, I got bored with my solo project so I started to seek other bands who were in need of someone to record them. I came across a band that I used to gig with back when I was still in Misanthropy. They needed a demo recorded for label submission. So I agreed to record them. They were located about 50 miles away from me and I transported my equipment up there and drove back and forth everyday for about 2 months. We ended up recording 12 songs and by the time the mastering was complete, the drummer, singer, and bassist decided that they wanted to quit the band. This left only the 2 guitarists and a 12 track demo. They wanted to continue the band so they hired me to stand in as vocalist while they found a bassist and a drummer. This trio lasted for a while until the band hired one of their old drummers and a young relative of one of the guitarists for bass in late 2008. After about a week of practice, the band played at a battle of the bands in a nearby city and won. After that, the band, known as On-Edge, headed off to Atlanta, GA to record a 2 song demo with an entertainment firm in early 2009. The demo was promoted all over the internet and a record label, based out of Wisconsin, started to show interest through Myspace. On-Edge signed with the label in September of 2009 for two years. The band recorded an album in Wisconsin in December of 2009 and it was released in July of 2011. During that time, we replaced our drummer once and our bassist twice. We toured all over and played with lots of big name bands including Dope, Adema, and Soil at big name venues. While all of this was going on, I still continued to write my own stuff. I liked my own sound, which was different from On-Edge. I liked the freedom I had to record whatever I wanted without someone telling me to change something or me having to dumb down musical pieces for people who weren't at my level. It's a real satisfying feeling to be able to write something completely on your own and sit back and listen to your masterpiece. In the middle of 2011, On-Edge began to slow down. Things weren't exciting for the band anymore and playing our music began to be a chore. By December, the lease ran out on our practice space and instead of renewing for another year, we decided to go our separate ways and end the band known as On-Edge. Thus, began anew... STAT1STICK.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I played live in On-Edge. We traveled everywhere... I don't see how I would play all of my music by myself on stage... But, I guess if Skrillex can do it, maybe I can, too!
