THE WILLIAMS BROTHERS were molded in the streets of Oakland, California during the seventies listening to their parents vast blues collection, the funk of the ghetto, and the psychedelic music that blossomed in and around their home. Inevitably the brothers followed their families lineage of song and dance men, and started putting together their first groups in the early 80's. Skilled in many instruments the brothers are very inventive and their shows have been known to become 6+ hour marathons
Band/artist history
THE WILLIAMS BROTHERS moved to western Colorado in 2000 where they are considered the anchor of the western Colorado music scene. Over the past 17 years the brothers have helped start several music venues, put together some of the earliest jam band festivals, and have tirelessly promoted the genre. THE WILLIAMS BROTHERS BAND has a weekly half hour radio segmant dedicated to them during the local scene show on KMSA 91.3 fm in Grand Junction, Co. & were recently voted one of the top ten bands to see in Colorado by "Emmitts Tops in America" website. A WILLIAMS BROTHERS show features intertwining songs and extended improv induced jams fueled by any and all audatory stimulus to have ever sounded, there is no genre or barrier that is considered unusuable, it is true old school original jam music. JAMES WILLIAMS sings with the grit of JIM MORRISON the soul of OTIS REDDING and the personal experience of JERRY GARCIA, while PHILLIP WILLIAMS plays lead guitar with a deep blues style that is noticeably influenced by JIMI HENDRIX, DUANE ALLMAN, ALVIN LEE and a fluidity that is at times eerily reminescent of JERRY GARCIA. Whether solo, together as "ACOUSTIC WB" or with their back-up group THE HOMEGROWN BOOGIE BAND, WILLIAMS BROTHERS shows are always full of surprises including various special guests. THE WILLIAMS BROTHERS have released a total of 4 albums, and have countless live bootleg recordings circulating throughout the tape trading ranks. The WBB is planning a 15-year retrospective album to be released summer 06. James and/or Phillip Williams have worked with: RAMBLIN JACK ELLIOT, JIMMY SMITH, JOHN LEE HOOKER, LYNYRD SKYNYRD, REO SPEEDWAGON, THE GUESS WHO, TESLA, ZIGABOO MODELISTE, THE DREW EMMITT BAND, VINCE HERMAN, JOE CRAVEN, DEREK TRUCKS, CANNED HEAT, RATT, SLAUGHTER, TRAPT, JOHN WAITE, TONY FURTADO, OZOMATLI, C-BO, KARL DENSON, GREAT AMERICAN TAXI, THAMUSEMEANT, SAM KINNIGER, CARLOS WASHINGTON, THE MEDITATIONS, H.
