Orthodox Fuzz is a Dallas-Fort Worth based heavy rock band taking influence from the great classic heavy rock and psychedelic bands of the 60s and 70s and stoner rock, metal, southern rock, and doom bands from the 80s on up. Big fat riffs, slow grooves, fuzzed out guitars and bass, and crushing heaviness... Lo-fi, psychedelic, bluesy and a little retro. If you like Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Acid King, Fu Manchu, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Down, Orange Goblin, traditional doom, stoner rock, heavy southern rock, and maybe some classic rock, you might dig the sound we have.
Band/artist history
Formed in the fall of 2007, founding members Brian H. and Dale Williamson set out to form a band whose style was sorely missing from the DFW rock scene, a riff driven heavy rock band with both classic and modern influence that would excite fans of multiple genres and of all ages. As important as riffs, massive volume, and an infectious groove, the band sought out from the beginning with the mission to easily flow from one of the classic stoner rock쳌 genres to another. Within these genres are traditional stoner rock, doom metal, sludge, psychedelic rock, southern rock and classic rock. The founders had long desired to play these styles of music, a style that they had great passion for. It only took a few months for the band to find a stable line-up of like minded musicians and begin writing material that would see their vision come to fruition. The other object was to play live and the band took the stage less than 6-months after forming. The remainder of 2008 was spent honing the live show, recruiting a second guitarist, and recording a 2-song demo called âœThe Avalon Sessions. The songs on the demo demonstrated the darker, doomier style of the band. Recent songs have seen the band move more into groove-oriented, classic rock influenced heavy rock style. 2009 will see the band go into the studio and work on first a 4-song EP and then a full-length album. In between recording, Orthodox Fuzz will be taking to stages throughout DFW and converting the masses to their brand of fuzz-laden, heavy riff rock. Update: original singer and drummer parted ways with the band in May of 2009. As difficult as that was, the remaining members decided to forge on and quickly regrouped with a new drummer. It took a while to find a new front man, but that mission has been accomplished and we are looking forward to new recordings and shows late in the year.
