That is how we would describe the sound of THE ASYLUM
Following in the footsteps of bands like Pantera, Lamb of God, Slipknot, & Killswitch Engage, this band lays down modern metal grooves like no other.
THE ASYLUM's new album, IN DEATH AND TRAGEDY, is a non-stop sonic assault from the haunting opening of ORIGIN, through the double guitar wizardy of SOLITUDE and ARE WE DREAMING.
Members of the band dealt with a great deal of personal loss in the
year leading up to this album, and the lyrics to every song, centered around WITHOUT YOU and CIRCLES, explore this very emotional time for the band.
IN DEATH AND TRAGEDY is 8 pieces, 40 minutes of heavy guitar, pounding drums, and
emotive, aggressive vocals. Drummer Dan Edwards and Bassist Bill Infamous build the foundation, while Vince LuPone and Adam Huck's absolutely crushing sevenstring guitar sound sets the tone on the album. Vocalist Jason Kendall's amazing repertoire of vocal styles, abilities, & sheer passion make this one of the most thought povoking and inspirational new albums out this year. Ending the album is the band's thundering cover of EYE OF THE TIGER, one of the most popular songs of the 1980s, featured in the film Rocky III.
The Asylum was formed in June of 2005 by Jason Kendall & Vince LuPone. Meeting through an ad in a local music paper, Vince & Jason decided they wanted to form a different kind of heavy metal band; raw and powerful, unique and emotional. From their early songwriting sessions, it was clear Jason & Vince had something special.
The first lineup of the band was formed in the summer/fall of 2005 and The Asylum began playing local concerts around Tempe & Phoenix. Vince and Jason both pushed the band to record, and in 2006 they began working on a debut record. During the recording process, drummer Steve Whitehead decided he did not share the bands intentions of touring and making a living playing music. Jason & Vince had a choice to make, either end the project or regroup, channel their efforts and finish the album their way.
Jason soon moved in with Vince in his apartment in Tempe, and they began tirelessly working on the album in their home studio, night and day, making it the absolute best music they possibly could. This galvanized the two as they wrote amazingly beautiful, heavy, and thought-provoking songs together. Working as a team, LuPone and Kendall finished the album in about eight months time, completely re-writing songs and making them flow and move in ways they never did before.
Fast forward to present day, The Asylum is thriving. Having played many shows in Arizona and California in 2007 and 2008, building their fan base, the band finally released their album Closer to the Evil to tremendous reactions from fans and critics alike. New members Dan Edwards, Bill Infamous, and Adam Huck now fully on board, the band is in prime position to conquer their destiny.
With thousands of fans across the country, The Asylum is poised to take over the underground metal scene. The band has a dedicated core of fans in their hometown of Phoenix, AZ, and are branching out regionally to spread the word.
At their shows, itÃââs not unusual to see dozens of fans singing along to KendallÃââs lucid & thought-provoking lyrics, forming a mosh pit, or simply taking in the songs & musicianship. The AsylumÃââs live show is extremely high energy, entertaining, and absolutely 100% pure adrenaline. The bandÃââs fan base is currently in the tens of thousands, and they always have a packed house at their concerts.
The Asylum plays a lot of live shows. Mainly in the Tempe and Phoenix scene, but we've been known to play regionally, especially in California.
