AMENEMHAT : SEKHMET ( THE MAKING OF ) In a very dim lit room with candles and low lighting, The mackie console illuminates a VU (Volume main meter) as the digital meter bounces to the mixing of the final song to the album (Sekhmet) Front man DMD, composer and producer of a personal private studio called Boomerang Digital. The software Logic Pro X runs efficiently on the iMac as the album is being recorded and produced. One room blast a cranking amp of distortion, and split off the mackie into a Vocal room full of screams and yells as the vocalist dimly Sekhmet explores the vivid detail world of Warfare, Emotional Lost, Absence, Beauty and Love along with Ground bending techno, Metal guitar washes, Deep trance bass hooks, Dark possessive lyrics and vocals and hate stamped onto the book cover. DMD reply ‘Its all new and fresh to me, yes its deep and thoughtful, as in what you wished for in the end, just like all of you that have treated me like hell in the past, this is what you face now’ as the tracks flow over the speakers he replies ‘ Its everything imagined in this album from hate to love, to dispart and absence to everything a brain could possibly think’ Its really a dream to me that i can finally record on a mac, in the past its all been window processed. DMD smiles as he slowly replies. ’sharps and flats have been a big fav, along with the mixture of minors and deep sevenths, i feel this album is like building an empire of warfare, bold strong gloomy possessed grieve lost and loved. Why the cover, why the pictures on the album?, DMD Says ‘Well its a blend of time, showing the depth of how anger hate and passion looks with beauty and persistence’ ..the album has a sense of push to it. ’The album was a total time killer to make’ ..’it went through stages, first the full lay out. then recording and editing without vocals, then it went to compression to recording vocals, polish edit, master and produce…the editing stages where very rough, i believe that is what killed the time for us’ Daniel Ross did a great job at editing i will say, loads of effort. Keyboard was a major influence in this whole album. Getting that perfect sound was a huge major set back in the studio. The options are insane to get what you want. Keeping focused has always been a huge challenge and when your dealing with all this coming at you, its like you have to line it all up to flow in a certain order. We used a lot of on boarded software guitar amps and cabinets, Line 6, Mesa Triple wreak, Ampeg, Krank, Shure Mics. along with the 8 strings as a vet format defiantly had the lows to sweep the EQ a bit. Drums where recorded in different forms, Live and direct. From BATTERY to a TAMA kit. We felt the Mackies could only go so far, so we had pics on a few shells. We had one amp in a single room cranked with the door closed, and then directly record with a vst together to get that deep low end.
