This version is 6/12 String version with The Byrds/R. McGuinn as an influence, though it wasn't originally intentional. Dave Rosky helped anchor it with the bass line and the leads which drag it beyond the granny glasses.
Written on a Friday and a demo the next morning. It's one of those songs that can be done in ANY styl INVALID . I'll let the lyrics in the song speak to the story behind the song, but really what do you call it if you don't call it love?
1. You didnt commit but still its unresolved
What were we doing, what problem didnt I solve
Trembling at the back door and hanging on the telephone
Was it just a temporary cure for being left alone
I guess Im not sure what it was
If you dont call it love
2. The still of the night is a bleak prison
A place where time, sits painfully still
Where the past stopped with the glass half full
Just a memory that never had a cure
3. Minor chords and somber melodies
Tell you that things didnt end so sweet
Whenever two strangers eyes meet
A wish a hope and then a bad memory
4. Standing flat foot a hand against the night
Where you lost the battle, but still continued to fight
Throwing yourself up against a hard stone wall
That no longer matters if it falls
