Story behind the song
2003 Vai Quip (Recorded late '03) After a struggle to get my technique down adequate enough to even attempt a tune like this, I finally recorded a Steve Vai tune (well, I did my best; LOL); Though there are several flaws, & I did take a few liberties with the melody, it is still fairly close to the original tune (Thanks to ProTools & a LOT of editing). Yes I recorded this tune as a joke, & yes I even borrowed an Ibanez JEM7V to record it (I honestly don't even own a guitar with a Floyd Rose; I know, all those guitars & none with a Floyd Rose). However, I did attempt to play this tune again (pathetically) after the '04 semi-finals of Guitar Center's Guitarmageddon competition, in San Marcos, California (I was a guest judge for Guitar Center's annual Guitarmageddon contest that year). I renamed this version "For The Love Of Vai, God This Was Hard" my own PUN on the original title; By now most of you know that I'm more into playing Original Rock than this type of 'shredder stuff', but I figured that it would be a challenge (& honestly it was quite difficult); I had fun recording it, but I don't think I'll be doing anything like this again since it's just too difficult for me to maintain the technique, plus I had to do soo much editing just to get it sounding right, & honestly why would I want to play like this all the time anyway; to me it just gets boring (lol) . . .
