Today is the day when I take out the trash Eggshells and coffee grounds, cigarette ash Empty containers of milk and ice cream And sharp little splinters of yesterday's dreams They've sat here in corners and cluttered my home Too hard to touch them, I've left them alone Covered in cobwebs, they lay on the floor Pieces of garbage I don't want anymore So today is the day when I toss it all out It's just down to laziness they're still hanging about Don't need to keep them, don't need to cry Tears on my cheek are from dust in my eye So I stuff them in bags and I tamp them right down Over the traffic I'll still hear the sound Crushed in the jaws of the crushing machine Sharp little splinters of yesterday's dreams
