Story behind the song
Song was recorded in the English Speaking World as I WISH YOU LOVE. The original French version reflects poignantly on What's left of our loves? Louis Charles Augustin Georges Trenet was a French singer-songwriter. He was most famous for his recordings from the late 1930s until the mid-1950s, though his career continued through the 1990s. Born: 18 May 1913, Narbonne, France Died: 19 February 2001, Créteil, France. At the start of World War II, Trenet was called up. He was in barracks at Salon-de-Provence until he was demobilized in June 1940, when he moved back to Paris. There he performed at the Folies Bergère or at the Gaîté Parisienne in front of a public often consisting of German officers and soldiers. This must have been pretty awful for him, - but I guess his music brought a lot of pleasure to France . . . and a lot of nostalgia to the few remaining WW2 French veterans now in 2020.
Lyrics
IF YOU ARE ADVENTUROUS AND WISH TO TRY THE FULL FRENCH LYRICS: Ce soir, le vent qui frappe à ma porte me parle des amours mortes devant le feu qui s'éteint. Dites-le-moi. Pourquoi ?
