Three County Minimalism
This track is taken from the most recent set of recordings by The Governess, eight linked songs entitled "The Three County Show". The idea was to do an English version of the Southern Gothic. All that fever over class and sex, the country estates, the blood bonded families, the dull totality of their knowledge, their secrets long buried. All the songs are set it in an imaginary Gloucestershire.
This song is about the impossible physical congress between a woman and the moon and the impossible joy that arises from it.
The final melody line was written by Kali.
THE WOMAN:
I fell in love with the Moon
I fell in love with the Blackened Sky
When nightime calls upon me
I just say 'Buddy, why don't you come inside...'
THE MOON:
She left her window open
And I got into her room
And I fell upon her beauty
Like a dark and muddy stone
THE WOMAN:
How long have I been wanting you?
THE MOON:
Ever since you were a girl
Ever since you raised your sight above
This ugly world
THE WOMAN:
I must be dreaming
THE MOON:
How long have I been wanting you?
THE WOMAN:
Since woman took a man
And they moved in ways
You didn't understand
THE MOON:
I thought I was dreaming too...
THE WOMAN:
To the Moon I'll bear a daughter
I'll bear a son for the Blackened Sky
I'll carry them for nine months
Then I will lay back and give them life
How long have I been wanting you?
THE MOON:
Ever since you were a girl
Ever since you raised your sight above
This ugly world
THE WOMAN:
I must be dreaming
THE MOON:
How long have I been wanting you?
THE WOMAN:
Since woman took a man
And they moved in ways
You didn't understand
THE MOON:
I thought I was dreaming too
THE WOMAN:
I thought I was dreaming too...
