Story behind the song
Kevin and Mark were sitting in Kevin's old gray VW in the park across from Cypress Gardens, Winter Haven, Florida. The song tells the story of teenagers coming of age in 1980's America. It was Autumn and the leaves were falling, high school was over, and it was about facing the reality of getting a real job during a recession, in a town with double digit unemployment. We didn't know who we were or what we could even be. All we knew was at that moment we were just rocking. It is also about the end of childhood dreams.
Lyrics
Look at all the leaves falling on the ground All the noise, but there's no sound. Familiar places that I used to know Made me feel that I had to go I'm a Rocking Man now I'm a Rolling Stone I'm a Rockin Man Now I'm a Rolling Stone Who are you now? Or pretending to be? Think for a moment where this might lead B'cause dreams are for dreams And life is for life You're dreaming your dreams will make it work out right. I'm a Rockin Man Now. I'm a Rolling Stone I'm a Rocking Man Now I'm a Rolling Stone. D Fmag7 C G
